Landrum Endowment Fund Opens Annual Grant Round
Chillicothe, OH – The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and the Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities are pleased to announce a grant opportunity that will support projects related to improving lives of individuals with developmental disabilities in Ross County, Ohio. Applications are due by Friday, January 29, 2021.
The Landrum Endowment Fund’s annual grant round is seeking nonprofit and public organizations that have projects directly tied to the Fund’s mission. Organizations based outside of Ross County are welcome to apply, although grant proposals must focus on Ross County residents.
The grant round will specifically focus on the areas of advocacy, community inclusion, community employment, and parent/family support for individuals with development disabilities.
Last year, the Fund’s inaugural grant round awarded nearly $50,000 to four Ross County projects:
- Goodwill of South Central Ohio received funding for the Handy Helpers Program, which provides opportunities for people with disabilities to work, earn wages, and build skills through planting flowers, raking leaves, painting rooms, and more.
- Downtown Chillicothe received funding to make downtown buildings more accessible through free, portable ramps for businesses.
- The Ross-Pike ESD received funding for its therapeutic listening program, which supports preschool and school-age students living with autism and sensory disorders.
- Chillicothe City Schools received funding to support its sensory room and a new motor lab/sensory space. These projects are designed to help students with reading and writing difficulties, language and speech delays, disorganization, poor concentration, and chronic body aches.
The Landrum Endowment Fund was created in 2016 after George Landrum, a lifelong resident of Ross County, left an endowment of $1.2 million to the Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities, also known as the Pioneer Center. George’s brother, John Landrum, received over 30 years of service from the Pioneer Center.
Applications for the Fund’s grant round are available at www.AppalachianOhio.org/Landrum, and will be accepted from Monday, January 4, 2021 through Friday, January 29, 2021.
