Special Olympics Coach – Basketball
Description
Manages specified Special Olympics program for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Expected to schedule two practices per week along with competition schedule.
Responsibilities
Special Olympics Coaches must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to perform the following:
- Complete orientation, background check, and web-based training upon being hired.
- Communicate with Special Olympics Director as to the schedule of practices and competitions.
- Communicate regularly with Special Olympics Director regarding any program related concerns.
- Arrive at the practice site at least 15 minutes before practice is scheduled to start.
- Have practice or instruction set up and ready to begin on time.
- Be hands-on and actively assist athletes through activity.
- Keep all athlete information confidential.
- Responsible for proper use of all equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining safety for your athletes.
- Adhere to all policy, procedures, and codes of conduct.
Qualifications
Must be 16 years of age or older; must hold and maintain a current, valid driver’s license; must maintain insurability with automobile insurance carriers; CPR and First Aid certification preferred; must complete MUI and Rights trainings upon hire.
- Must demonstrate enthusiasm, strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and ability to work effectively with people with disabilities, Pioneer staff, and parents/guardians/providers.
- Be safety conscious and always promote safety.
- Ability to engage in activities requiring physical exertion. Ability to perform required duties under stressful situations without supervision.
- Successful completion of criminal background check.
- Successful completion of Class A Volunteer application and Concussion Training as required by Special Olympics Ohio.
- Knowledge of disabilities and proven experience with people with various disabilities in therapeutic recreation, community or related fields preferred but not required.
- Prior experience playing sports and/or coaching, and familiarity with rules is helpful.
Job Benefits
Contract Period: October 2024 through February 2025, 2 practices/events per week
